SAIC Designed Border Barrier Fence Along U.S./Mexican Border

SAIC provided professional engineering services and hydraulic analysis and design of 59.6 miles of border barrier fence along the U.S./Mexican Border in California and Arizona.

Overview

SAIC teamed with Granite Construction on a DesignBuildSM project for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District and the Department of Homeland Security to construct primary border barrier fence in Arizona and California. SAIC provided the complete civil engineering, structural engineering and analysis, and hydraulic analysis and design for the border fence to meet Army Corps of Engineers, International Border and Water Commission (IBWC) requirements in the U.S. and Mexico, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), U.S. Border Patrol, and U.S. Bureau of Land Management requirements.

SAIC provided services for:

  • Hydrological analysis and design of the contributing drainage basins
  • Structural design of the fence
  • Coordination with various regulatory agencies
  • Plan and design analysis document production
  • Development of the operation and maintenance (O&M) manual for fence maintenance

SAIC teamed with Granite Construction on a DesignBuild project to construct primary border barrier fence in Arizona and California.

The structural design of the fence included considerations such as vehicle impact load, wind load, seismic loads, and the effects of dune sand. The primary fence was typically constructed three feet north of the border except at monument locations.

The seven projects completed include:

  • Moment 250 A1: in San Diego County, Calif., 5.2 miles of fence, 7.12 miles of roadway
  • Yuma C-1: Imperial County, Calif., 10.40 miles of fence
  • Imperial Sand Dunes E2B: Imperial County, Calif., 2.85 miles of fence
  • Calexico East B-5A: Imperial County, Calif., 19.27 miles of fence
  • Calexico East Checks B-4: Imperial County, Calif., 10.4 miles of fence
  • Calexico West Normandy Fence BV-1: Imperial County, Calif., 6.12 miles of fence
  • Naco E-2B: Naco, Ariz., 5.36 miles of fence
