SAIC Plays Integral Role Relocating Infantry Brigade to Northern Italy

SAIC provided planning and design services for Naval Facilities Engineering Command Atlantic (NAVFAC) to relocate the 173rd Infantry Brigade from Germany to Dal Molin Airfield, Vicenza, Italy, to increase the brigade’s capability to rapidly deploy.

Overview

SAIC prepared a comprehensive cost model for the 173rd Infantry Brigade’s new installation in Dal Molin Airfield, Vicenza, Italy, working in collaboration with an Italian cost consultant. SAIC provided planning and design services for development of the site master plan, conceptual design, and preparation of DesignBuildSM request for proposal (RFP) documents for 19 base facilities, totaling 2 million square feet. The Italian-style design promotes sustainability of the site through an efficient arrangement of buildings and circulation patterns. Facilities include:

  • Combined brigade and battalion headquarters
  • Four company operations facilities
  • Dining facility
  • Three tactical equipment maintenance facilities
  • Fire station Provost Marshals Office (PMO) facility
  • Two barracks accommodating 600 personnel
  • Physical fitness facility
  • Two, six-story privately owned vehicle (POV) parking structures accommodating 900 cars each
