SAIC Integrates Esri Technology with Smart Grid as a Service Solution

(McLEAN, Va.) Jan. 20, 2012 — Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) [NYSE: SAI] is working with Esri, the world’s leading provider of Geographic Information System (GIS) software, to integrate GIS technology with SAIC’s Smart Grid as a Service to deliver state-of-the-art smart grid solutions to utilities of all sizes. Esri develops GIS that function as an integral component for electric utilities across the country. This solution is particularly attractive for municipal electric utilities since more than 80 percent of municipalities across the nation have deployed Esri software.

Through Smart Grid as a Service, SAIC delivers affordable, comprehensive, and integrated smart grid solutions to municipal utilities seeking operational improvements, greater security, and increased options for their customers. By integrating Esri’s technology, SAIC will provide its utility customers with a cloud-hosted environment where they can access powerful GIS tools to gain a quick view into an Outage Analysis of their service territory. SAIC will expand into the other areas such as supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and smart grid situational awareness visualizations.

“By integrating Esri’s GIS with SAIC’s Smart Grid as a Service, we further our commitment to building effective, real-time smart grid solutions for utilities,” said Mark Fronmuller, SAIC executive vice president of Energy IT and Smart Grid.

“Esri and SAIC have a history of collaboration, so adding our GIS technology to SAIC’s extensive smart grid expertise is the next step to providing a comprehensive and affordable smart grid modernization capability for all utilities - no matter their size,” said Bill Meehan, global director of utility solutions for Esri.
